The Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ) works towards ensuring that Scotland’s approach to children and young people in conflict with the law is rights-respecting; contributing to better outcomes for our children, young people and communities. We produce robust ground-breaking work by bringing together children and young people’s contributions, research evidence, practice wisdom and system know-how to operate as a leader for child and youth justice thinking in Scotland and beyond. We work across three workstreams: Practice and Policy Development, Research, and, Participation and Engagement.

CYCJ is primarily funded by the Scottish Government and is hosted by the University of Strathclyde, in the School of Social Work and Social Policy. Our Executive Governance Group has oversight of CYCJ and our strategic direction, and consists of representatives from across policy, practice, research and lived experience.

We are seeking a Research Associate to work within our Research Workstream, and alongside the Bairns’ Hoose Unit in the Scottish Government, as part of a small team providing analytical support to the Bairns’ Hoose Pathfinders Phase.  A PVG will be required for the successful candidate.

You will have a PhD qualification in the social sciences or extensive professional research experience.  You will have experience of project management and the design and delivery of large-scale multi-method projects.  Experience in both qualitative and quantitative methods are essential.  The successful candidate will also be able to evidence flexibility and responsiveness in working on projects that involve complex partnerships or are in a phase of development.  Experience of working within a child protection or children’s services context, as well as knowledge of Bairns’ Hoose or trauma-informed practice, is desirable.

Please note that this post is fixed term until 31st March 2025 to support the Bairns’ Hoose Pathfinder Phase.

Formal interviews for this post will be held w/c 27 November 2023.
