Practice Development Advisor - Training (620186)

Salary: £45,585 - £56,021
FTE: 1 FTE
Term: Fixed Term (12 months), with indicative funding for a further year
Closing Date: 17/06/2024

The Children & Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ) is looking to recruit a full-time Practice Development Advisor. The role would suit someone with expertise in developing and delivering continued professional development opportunities that support those who work with children and young people who have come into contact with the law, or who are at risk of doing so. The post is offered as a one-year fixed term contract, or secondment.

Current system changes including the Children (Care and Justice) (Scotland) Act, UNCRC incorporation, Children’s Hearing Re-design, and potential increase in the Age of Criminal Responsibility, highlight the urgent need for a national training approach to increase workforce competence and community confidence in these changes. To successfully uphold the UNCRC, #KeepThePromise, and remove children from adult justice systems we need robust child-friendly alternatives and a workforce that is sufficiently supported to deliver these changes.

We are looking to recruit a Practice Development Advisor to join the practice and policy team and to develop and lead on a learning and development model that will provide the training and support required for a wide workforce (police/education/social work-children and families & justice/residential and secure care/third sector/foster carers/health). The model will be aligned with existing Scottish Government learning and development frameworks and will be designed to specifically meet the needs of those working with children who come into contact with the law.

The post holder should be experienced in supporting the development and delivery of training and professional development, with a strategic overview to assess and meet workforce need.

To be considered for the role, you will have a good honours degree and/or equivalent professional experience in an appropriate discipline. You will have sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in the relevant discipline/s to contribute the existing work of CYCJ and to develop new areas.

Please note that this post is initially funded for 12 months, with indicative funding for a further year. Secondments welcome.

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Ranald McTaggart, Head of Practice Development (ranald.mctaggart@strath.ac.uk).

Formal interviews for this post will be held on 27/06/2024.
