The Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) seeks to appoint 2 Lecturers to support our growing research and teaching ambitions. Based within the Faculty of Science, CIS is an internationally recognised research department specialising in information science, artificial intelligence, computer security, health informatics, interactive systems and theoretical computer science. It is home to over 1000 undergraduates, taught postgraduate and PhD students with an increasing emphasis on in person and online delivery of high-quality educational programmes. CIS is working closely with industry through a growing portfolio of education and knowledge exchange projects supported by the Scottish Funding Council Innovation Centres, like the DataLab and the Digital Health and Care Institute, and Innovate UK.
We seek to recruit 2 energetic, highly motivated scholars who will contribute to the research, teaching, and administrative activities of the school in the MSc and PhD programs. This application is open to all computer science disciplines, but we have a particular interest in software engineering, machine learning and artificial intelligence for these roles.
The appointees will be expected to teach on the Department’s undergraduate and masters programmes. The teaching and learning environment within Strathclyde is rapidly evolving, including more use of online and technology enabled, as well as more traditional delivery, so experience of teaching in a variety of models would be welcome.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate significant promise in their research discipline with a record of achievement in their career to date and demonstrate an ability to attract research funding. They will have ambitious academic goals and an understanding of how to bring in the grant income required to fund those goals.

The Faculty of Science offers a Research Starter Grant to all new full-time, non-professorial, academic staff within the Faculty. The Grant may be used for any purpose that assists staff to establish their Strathclyde research career and to assist in attracting additional funding for research from external sources. Any grant awarded will be to a maximum of £10,000, and the planned expenditure of the award is normally for a period of 18 months. Departments may, however, add to the value of this award.
Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Professor Martin Halvey, Head of Department (martin.halvey@strath.ac.uk).
Formal interviews for this post will be held in early November 2023.
