CYCJ works towards ensuring that Scotland’s approach to children and young people in conflict with the law is rights-respecting, contributing to better outcomes for our children, young people and communities. Children and young people are at the heart of all our activity, although one of our key mechanisms for change is by supporting policymakers and practitioners.

We are seeking a Research Associate to work within our Research Workstream to evaluate how the Scottish Child Interview Model (SCIM) has been implemented in nine partnership areas across Scotland; appraise its impact on the experiences and outcomes for children and young people, including, but not limited to, use of the joint investigative interview as Evidence in Chief in criminal proceedings, hearsay evidence in civil proceedings, and resulting impact on further evidence requirements from children.

You will have post-graduate qualification in the social sciences or extensive professional research experience.  We would be particularly interested in applicants with experience of research within the field of child protection. You should also have experience of researching sensitive topics and understand the practical and ethical issues involved in researching with children and young people.  Good written skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate and engage with a wide range of audiences from children and families to senior legal professionals.

Please note this is a fixed term full-time appointment until 31 August 2024.

Interviews for this post will be held late August 2023.

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Nina Vaswani, Senior Research Fellow (nina.vaswani@strath.ac.uk).
