Salary range: £23,144 - £25,138 (Pro-rata)

FTE: 0.5 (17.5 hours/week)

The Information Services Directorate is seeking to appoint an Information Services Assistant (Collections). This role is part of the Library Collections Team and involves working on a range of tasks associated with the effective maintenance of the Library’s holdings, ensuring that collections remain closely aligned with the University’s teaching, learning and research activities. The post holder will be required to use the Library’s reading list software and record changes made to collections in the Library Management System.
Your primary responsibilities will include:

 

Contributing to reading list work using Leganto software;
Bibliographic checking, sourcing information about e-book availability, pricing and supplier licenses;
Moving stock between collections, stock editing and recommending new stock for purchase;
Dealing with customer enquiries, including enquiries from students and academic staff;
Scanning texts for the Digitisation Service, and making those scans accessible to students and academic staff;
Undertaking other tasks associated with the Library’s print collection.
 
This is a varied role for which you will need a good balance of customer service skills and the ability to work systematically and accurately in line with procedures to tight timelines. You will be a good team player, able to work across multiple teams, as well as on your own initiative, and be able to prioritise tasks. You will have good decision making skills, and be able to liaise with staff across Library & Information Resources, and with academic staff. You will have a good general education to SCE Higher or equivalent. The ability to work with technology and software packages, in particular Library Management Systems, search tools and external supplier platforms, will be required, as well as the ability to deal with and understand access to electronic resources.
You will join a team of Collections Assistants and IS Assistants and will work closely with Library and Information Resources Staff as part of a supportive and motivated working environment.
This post involves hybrid working, and you will be required to work on and off campus on a rota basis between core hours of Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00. Initial training will take place wholly on campus. All working patterns will be considered within those core hours.
As with all Library and Information Resources (LIR) staff you will be required to support the Customer Service Excellence (CSE) initiative and to uphold the IS Customer Charter.
