The University is seeking to appoint a Project Archivist to support the AHRC-funded research project ‘Beyond The Dear Green Place: Recovering the Lost Works & Literary Networks of Archie Hind’. Archie Hind is one of Glasgow’s most important postwar writers, and his papers, previously thought lost, are an exceptionally important recent addition to the University’s archive collections.
The post will attract candidates who are motivated by enabling discovery and supporting access to a significant archive collection. They will take satisfaction in producing high quality archival descriptions that follow international standards, applying accuracy, consistency, and clarity at all times. They will enjoy managing a comprehensive digitisation programme to ensure worldwide access to the collection and will be comfortable investigating data protection and copyright issues to ensure that all material can be made accessible ethically and legally. They will also enjoy contributing to engagement activities designed to increase awareness and use of the collection such as writing articles, assisting with the curation of exhibitions and facilitating workshops or visits from community groups, researchers and schools. The role will suit individuals who enjoy collaborating with academic researchers and contributing to an open and inclusive research culture.
Strong applicants will have demonstrable experience of archival cataloguing and a thorough working knowledge of international descriptive standards, alongside a sound understanding of the legislative and ethical frameworks governing access to archives, including copyright and data protection. They will also have experience in managing or contributing to an archival digitisation programme, as well as experience of engagement activities such as writing blog-posts and curating exhibitions. Candidates will hold a relevant degree or be educated to HNC/HND level with appropriate professional experience or have developed equivalent expertise through approximately eight years of progressively responsible archival work. A recognised qualification in archives and records management would be an advantage, as would an interest in Scottish post-war writers and
literary archives.
