The Institute of Photonics (IoP) is a research division of the Department of Physics. It has approximately 70 staff and postgraduate students, predominantly based in the Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC). The Institute seeks to appoint a Modern Apprentice who will provide technical support to the semiconductor cleanroom in TIC.
The IoP’s own staff and students use the cleanroom for delivery of several major collaborative research programmes, and it is also accessible to external partners in a variety of modes, including commercial access. The successful applicant will work within a small operational team and undertake a mix of scheduled and more responsive tasks.
Essential qualifications are a minimum of 4 Nat 5’s at A, B and C (or equivalent), and these must include English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The Modern Apprenticeship programme is coordinated within the University and gives the successful candidate an opportunity to “earn and learn” as they will achieve an SQA qualification within the Engineering Technical Support framework during the 2-year programme.
