The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is one of the largest and most successful engineering faculties in the UK, and the largest in Scotland; boasting a growing research portfolio of over £85 million. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is one of the largest and most successful civil engineering departments in Scotland. As an Engineering Technician, you will provide practical technical support and advice to a wide range of student, staff, and researchers. This role involves providing support for both research and teaching activities. The post-holder will require a broad and deep understanding of a range of methods and procedures of engineering applications.

To be considered for this role you will be educated to HNC level in civil engineering, mechanical engineering or a cognate discipline, or with the relevant industrial work experience, experience within wider civil engineering, geoscience, soils, hydrology or analytical science would also be desirable. You will have significant knowledge and expertise in an engineering workshop or laboratory environment as well as experience and demonstrable working knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures. You will have experience of providing a high level of personal responsibility and initiative to respond directly to queries and you will have experience of applying judgement to deal with daily challenges and circumstances, with limited guidance from a superior. You will have significant knowledge within the field of mechanical or civil engineering. You will have good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to inform and explain technical elements to stakeholders with a varying degree of technical knowledge. You will have excellent troubleshooting skills, including a methodical approach to solving complex problems, with limited guidance. You will have an ability to work autonomously, prioritising and coordinating your own workload and making decisions with minimum supervision to meet project deadlines and you will have the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Strong customer focus is essential.
