The Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine
Engineering (NAOME) at the University of Strathclyde is a bold and ambitious
world-leading centre of marine technology. Over 100 years old, NAOME has become
a key provider of Marine Technology expertise throughout the UK, and the world.
With an excellent reputation in research, teaching and knowledge exchange, the
Department is now seeking to appoint a new Head of Department to take over its
leadership during 2017. The Department’s wide-ranging involvement in the
profession, both nationally and internationally, and its excellent portfolio of
externally funded research, diversified teaching programmes and industry
networks, demands a strong and inspirational leader with the vision and drive
to build even greater success for the Department.
An internationally recognised academic leader with a
relevant first degree and PhD, the successful candidate will have a substantial
track record in research, teaching and knowledge exchange. In addition to this,
s/he will demonstrate significant management and leadership experience and will
demonstrate the ability and willingness to lead in a consultative, open and collaborate
way. An excellent communicator, capable of inspiring staff and students and
driving forward the Department’s ambitions and strategic aims across its full
range of activities, the new Head of Department will have the profile and
external presence to represent the Department to potential national and
international research partners, alongside industrial partners and other
private or public bodies.
Reporting to the Executive Dean of Engineering and the
Principal, the appointment as Head of Department will be for a fixed-term
period of three years initially with an open-ended substantive academic post in
the Department at a senior level, in accordance with your qualifications,
standing and experience.
