Salary Range: £39,992 per annum
FTE: 1
Term: Fixed term (01 August 2018 - 31 July 2020)
Closing Date: 08/04/2018

The School of Humanities is a community of researchers, teachers, students and support staff working together on key issues in historical and contemporary culture. We are seeking to appoint a fixed-term Teaching Fellow in European and International History for two years to assist in the design and delivery of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, and to cover teaching for staff on externally funded projects. History at the University of Strathclyde is rapidly expanding. It regularly enjoys NSS scores of over 90% for its undergraduate teaching. After REF2014, it was ranked second in Scotland, and ninth in the UK, by the Times Higher Education Supplement for research intensity in the subject area.

The successful candidate should be capable of delivering and contributing to existing undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes in European and International History. In 2018/2019, the post holder will lead and deliver one undergraduate module on the Cold War in semester 1 and one undergraduate module on Britain in the Second World War in semester 2, as well as contributing to the delivery of the undergraduate survey class ‘Modern Europe’ in semester 1. The successful candidate will also teach a PGT class on European and International History, and will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. The post holder may also have the opportunity to design new undergraduate modules for 2019/2020.

A good honours degree and PhD in appropriate discipline, as well as an established track record of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, inclusive of student assessment activities and curriculum development are essential.  Ability to deliver teaching and conduct assessment activities on the new MSc on Diplomacy and International Security (2019) is desirable.

We are seeking an excellent teacher who is keen to contribute to an active and collaborative subject area and to participate in wider activities within the School of Humanities.

Formal interviews for this post will be held on Tuesday, 1 May 2018.

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Dr Manuela Williams, History Subject Leader (Manuela.williams@strath.ac.uk).
