Research Associate (115497)

Salary Range: £31,604 - £34,520 per annum (pro rata)
FTE: 0.8
Term: Fixed (Until 28/02/21)
Closing Date: 12/03/2018

The School of Education seek to appoint a Research Associate to support the delivery of a research project,  ‘Comparing Intersectional Life Course Inequalities amongst LGBTQ Citizens in Four European Counties (CILIA – LGBTQ)’.

Bringing together an international and multi-disciplinary team of researchers, this Norface funded project investigates potential inequalities experienced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) people at three ‘transition’ points in life, highlighted in the call for application themes: school to work transitions; employment progression in mid-life; and the transition into retirement and its implications for end of life.

The key objective is to provide cross-cultural evidence concerning life course inequalities experienced by LGBTQ people, comparing and contrasting these across four European countries with different yet interrelated social, historical, economic and political backgrounds: England, Scotland, Portugal and Germany.

The successful candidate will work directly with and the Principal Investigator, Professor Yvette Taylor and the broader research team in the four partner institutions, while being based at the University of Strathclyde.  The role involves conducting literature searches on sexuality research, analysing key literature and policy on LGBTQ equality issues and writing up results individually and jointly, as part of the wider research team for publication.

It is essential candidates have a PhD in Sociology, Gender Studies or a cognate Social Science discipline, sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in the relevant disciplines and demonstrate a developing ability to conduct individual research work, to disseminate results and to prepare research proposal.  The successful candidate will have experience in qualitative research and publication, preferably in areas of sexuality and gender studies.

The post is available immediately, therefore it is preferable that the successful candidate would be available as soon as possible.

Formal interviews for this post will be held on Wednesday, 21 March 2018.

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Professor Yvette Taylor, Principal Investigator (Email: yvette.taylor@strath.ac.uk, Tel:@ 0141 444 8048).
