The Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) seeks to appoint a Teaching Associate or Fellow in Data Science in order to support our growing student population. Based within the Faculty of Science, CIS is an internationally recognised research department specialising in information science, artificial intelligence, computer security, health informatics, interactive systems and theoretical computer science. It is home to over 1000 undergraduates, taught postgraduate and PhD students with an increasing emphasis on in person and online delivery of high-quality educational programmes. CIS is working closely with industry through a growing portfolio of education and knowledge exchange projects supported by the Scottish Funding Council Innovation Centres, like the DataLab and the Digital Health and Care Institute, and Innovate UK.
CIS has recently expanded the range of programmes on offer and also modes of delivery, with significant growth and interest in our data science offerings. As a Teaching Fellow you will have a proven academic or professional track record in a field related to computer science or data science. Significant experience of Python is required, and some experience of R is also welcome. You should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm for and expertise in explaining core data science concepts and tools to a range of audiences, including beginners and non-experts. Knowledge of contemporary toolkits and package is also required.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver a number of modules relevant to their expertise. A Fellow will also be expected to have a central role in the design of future programmes, while Associates will deliver a range of established teaching modules. The teaching and learning environment within Strathclyde is rapidly evolving, including more use of online and technology enabled, as well as more traditional delivery, so experience of teaching in a variety of models would be welcome. You will need to demonstrate flexibility to adapt and innovate your approach to teaching and learning to embrace this evolution. Some overseas teaching may also be required on occasion.
