Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work in the groups of Professor Glenn Burley (www.burleylabs.co.uk) and Professor Simon Mackay at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow). This is a collaboration with Gene Solutions (https://mitodna.com/), an early-stage pharmaceutical-driven SME dedicated to developing a new generation of molecular therapies for age-related diseases. The overall objective of this translational drug discovery programme is to develop new gene regulatory compounds for the treatment of neurological diseases associated with mitochondrial dysfunction. This post will require the successful candidate to develop innovative techniques and methods spanning the synthesis (biochemical and/or synthetic) of gene regulatory small molecules and mitochondrial-targeting peptides/peptoids, preparation of liposomal delivery vectors and imaging their cellular and organelle distribution.
This work will involve extensive collaboration with biological and pharmaceutical groups (3 existing post-doctoral research associates and two senior research fellows) in the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences led by Professor Simon Mackay. This position will suit a highly motivated synthetic organic, biological chemist who is interested in applying their expertise at the Chemistry-Biology interface.
Initial interviews have been scheduled for 17.01.2022
