Applications are sought for a Post Doctoral Research Associate position in quantum imaging. The position is based at the Institute of Photonics (IoP, Department of Physics) at the University of Strathclyde.

The successful candidate will work with Dr Lucia Caspani, on the experimental project “Quantum-enhanced multiphoton fluorescence microscopy” funded by the QuantIC (Quantum Technology Hub in Quantum Enhanced Imaging, https://quantic.ac.uk) Accelerated Development Fund. This project aims to demonstrate a quantum-enhanced multiphoton fluorescence microscope. This will involve the design, realisation and characterisation of quantum optics experimental setups and imaging systems.

The project is part of a wider collaboration between Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow (Dr Clerici and Dr Müllenbroich). The appointed researcher will work closely with these partners with the opportunity for research visits as well as travel for dissemination of results at international conferences.

The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art optics laboratories featuring high-power ultrafast lasers, and the required characterisation devices (high-efficiency single-photon detectors and cameras, electronics and imaging devices) at the universities of Strathclyde and Glasgow. In addition to the design and realisation of the required quantum source (bright squeezed vacuum), the successful candidate will be responsible for the imaging setup and characterisation of the emitted fluorescence. A background in quantum optics and ultrafast nonlinear optics is essential.
