Researcher (80044)

Salary range : £31,076 - £32,958 restricted due to funding
FTE 1.0
Term : Fixed
Closing date : 03/09/2017

A Research Associate position is available funded by the BBSRC to investigate super resolution Raman microscopy.  This is an exciting new opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project which is run jointly between the Raman spectroscopy grouping of Professors Graham and Faulds within Pure and Applied Chemistry and the signal and imaging processing grouping within Electronic and Electrical Engineering of Professor Stephen Marshall and Dr Paul Murray.  This is a truly interdisciplinary research project combining Raman microscopy with image processing, mathematics, matrix manipulations, Matlab and optimisation techniques.  Ideally the successful candidate would have experience in Raman spectroscopy or microscopy along with a high level of mathematical capability and understanding.  The main expectation of the postholder will be to conduct practical experimentation into Raman microscopy and to develop the new signal and image processing that we have proposed to generate the super resolution capability.  This will involve working within a Raman research environment but also a signal and image processing environment.  Both of these research groupings are in the same building separated by one floor so the research environment is very conducive to this joint project and the successful applicant would have to be comfortable working in both environments.

Initial interviews will be held in mid September 2017.

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Professor Duncan Graham, Head of Department (duncan.graham@strath.ac.uk;).
