Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant in the Smart Materials Research and Device Technology (SMaRDT) group to work on development of highly efficient perovskite solar cells for application in indoor light harvesting and optical wireless communication.

Salary range: £31,396 - £34,980

FTE: 0.8

Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry to join the Smart Materials Research and Device Technology (SMaRDT) group to work on development of highly efficient perovskite solar cells for application in optical wireless communication. As a research associate you will play a key role in this project working with experts from academia (Strathclyde and Cambridge) as well as industry (NSG Pilkington, Shadow Robotics and Dupont Teijin films). You will be working closely with Dr. Aruna Ivaturi, who is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) leading the SMaRDT group. The main aim is to develop and demonstrate, high efficiency and stable perovskite solar cells on rigid and mechanical compliant substrates for indoor light harvesting and optical wireless communication.

Ideally you will have a PhD (or equivalent) in Physics/Material Science/Chemistry/Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field with strong background and extensive experience (industrial or postdoc or PhD level, with demonstrated publications) in development of rigid and/ flexible high efficient Perovskite solar cells fabrication and characterisation. As a PDRA, you will assist in the delivery of the research activities as part of a team, working under the general supervision of senior colleagues. You will conduct literature reviews, develop questionnaires, conduct surveys, collect and collate data, and undertake and record the outcomes of experiments. You will plan, manage, organise and prioritise your own workload and ensure that all activities are completed to deadline to achieve the corresponding deliverables and milestones, and contribute to the production of research reports and publications. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to collaborate well with colleagues from academia and industry. You will have excellent communication skills with ability to work independently and as part of a team. A proven ability to published research in high quality journals and present research outcomes at local, national and international research meetings/workshops/conferences is expected. You will input as a team member to administrative activities and assist, where required, with relevant teaching and knowledge exchange activities. Whilst not essential for the role, applications are welcomed from candidates with experience of relevant student supervision and teaching activities and experience of knowledge exchange related activities.
