Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Strathclyde.  The position is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council under a Digital Economy Fellowship awarded to Professor D. J. Higham. The Research Associate will contribute to the project “Data Analytics for Future Cities”. This project is developing new mathematical models and computational tools of direct relevance to city analytics. In addition to advancing fundamental research in computational mathematics, the project targets impact through interactions with a range of stakeholders and external partners, notably through the Institute for Future Cities at the University of Strathclyde.

The position has a 3 year duration.

A PhD, or equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience, in applied/computational mathematics or a related subject is essential. Experience and strong research potential in one or more of the following research areas is also essential: dynamical systems, network science, numerical analysis, matrix computation, statistical inference. The successful candidate must be a competent scientific programmer with the ability to work effectively within a team and to communicate with a wide range of collaborators and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute, as appropriate, to the supervision of research students, and to develop contacts and research collaborations within the University and the wider community. There will also be opportunities to gain undergraduate teaching experience.
