Applications are invited for a Post Doctoral Research Associate in the area of Medicinal Chemistry to work in the group of Dr Craig Jamieson (https://www.strath.ac.uk/staff/jamiesoncraigdr/) at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow). The PDRA recruited will work as part of a multi-disciplinary drug discovery team focused on the development and application of AI-led medicinal chemistry on. The programme funded as part of a wider EPSRC funded Prosperity Partnership and is carried out in close collaboration with colleagues at GlaxoSmithKline, as well as the groups of Dr Michael Stocks/Professor Jonathan Hirst (University of Nottingham) and Dr David Palmer (University of Strathclyde). The overall objective of this ambitious programme of work is to exploit emerging machine learning techniques and apply these to live medicinal chemistry programmes relevant to our industrial partner. The position is available for 18 months, with the possibility of a 6 month extension following project review.
The aim of this Research Associate Position will be in the design, synthesis and evaluation of a novel series of small molecule inhibitors of an epigenetic target, starting from a screening derived hit with the optimisation trajectory being enabled by AI-led approaches. Biochemical and physicochemical measurements will be integrated as part of the design workflow to expediently identify new leads for an important biological target.
Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Craig Jamieson, Reader in Medicinal Chemistry, craig.jamieson@strath.ac.uk, 0141 548 4830.
